Default DOS Games

Is there a simple way to play old DOS games on windows 7? I have downloaded 2 DOS emulators but I could not make heads or tails on how to use them. One was DOSBox and the other was D-Fend. I could get D-Fend to recognize the game but it would not open it. Any help would be appreciated.

I use DOSBox and I don't find it that complicated using this to run DOS games, not sure about other ways how to run these games, but as far as I'm concerned, you really need emulators.

DOSBox is by far the easiest way to do it. That or re-buying your games through either Steam or GOG or some digital vendor that has already adapted the game for you.
