I am using an HP 9050 printer. All drivers are up to date. I have a customer that is having difficulties printing a specific watermark. The watermark fades at random, then reappears.

The watermark is printing on checks, the checks print 3 to a page.
The first couple of checks on the page will look fine, and on the last check the watermark will have faded. This happens at random, not always the last check. Some are faded and some are completely gone.

I recreated the watermark, and it prints fine here, same software, same printer, same driver.

I had the customer change the toner, the fuser, and clean out the printer as well as run cleaning pages. Nothing else seems affected by the random fade out. All other watermarks print as they should.

Any thoughts?

The watermark is two chevron symbols.

What Windows version and Service Pack is used?

What software are they using to print from? is it the same version you have say for eg. Word 2010.

I guess this is a custom watermark?

Windows XP Service Pack 3, The software is a proprietary software used for printing checks.

The software versions do differ, I use the latest version and the customer is on an earlier version. On Monday I am updating the customer to our latest version of the software. I will also turn up the Toner density.

It is a custom watermark. our software uses two different types of files to be able to create the custom watermarks right through our software.
Visio is used as an image module, or we use PPT to create .emf files that can be uploaded through our software.

The watermark does not fade when we print it, only when the customer prints it at their location. We use the same printer as the customer.
