I'm trying to install a game that says I need to update my DirectX Libraries (or something of that nature). It gives me a link that directs me to this Microsoft page where I download DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer for 9.0c http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=35

When I download it to the root of my C and run it as an Admin, I get a message stating "An internal system error has occurred" and to refer to the DXError and DirectX Logs.

As I assume you will need them I have attached both logs for your review.

Can anyone tell me what the problem is? I was under the assumption I was already running the most up-to-date Microsoft software (Windows 7 with a Microsoft update just ran about a week ago with a very current display driver on my GeForce 9500 GT).

    Thanks

Do this: click the Start menu, then choose Run. In the box type dxdiag and press Enter on your keyboard.
What version does it say is installed?

The MS page you linked to says this
Seems strange to use an offline package.

It's says DirectX Version: DirectX 11.

This seems to contradict what the gaming is telling me when it says the libraries are out of date and then gives me a link to an outdated installer. Any idea what would cause it to not see my DX11?

Obviously the problem lies with your game software, which may be a very old version. Try to obtain a newer version that can recognize DirectX 11. (Although DX11 should be backwards compatible with DX9.)

After looking around, I see Directx 11 will not work for a game that requires Directx 9.0c.
I also discovered that is is possible to have both 9.0c and 11 installed in Windows 7.

The link you have to download is correct.

Try downloading it from here http://www.filehippo.com/download_directx/
as you can see, the size is drastically larger (95.63MB versus 286KB!). I think MS only has you down load some sort of installer then when you click that, assuming you have internet access active, it starts to download and install the rest.

Something strange happened today. I moved it to another folder (out of the root of the C where I normally install programs from) and it worked.

I don't think it's a permissions thing because I have full permissions in the root of my C.

Since it has to connect to a server could it have been an issue on their end that would generate that error? I'd still like to know what generated the error for future reference.

You might not know if it was a problem on there end or a placement of your file. Just be glad directx 9.0c is on your computer so the game stops complaining.

Believe me, I'm totally happy that it ended up working. However what you said here is what has me perplexed. Why oh why would running a MS app from the root of my C possibly be an issue? Of course I can't reproduce the error now since it says DirectX is already installed. I'm just speculating as to weather or not the file location could have been a cause. However, if it was, I'd just like to know why.

Basically even as an admin you should not have full access to the root of your C: drive.

Has anyone here ever had an issue with running an installer from the root of the C (as an Admin) and it not work for some reason due to a privileges issue? If so, then I suppose that would explain it.

If you have Windows 7, directx 9 wouldn't be the one you need. In the run box in Windows 7, type dxdiag and hit enter, and you will be able to see which version you have installed. Maybe your game needs version 11 and you have only version 10...not sure.

Disregard this post. I'm not sure how this happened.

mail.gitoc@gmail.com 's posts should be split from this 2012 thread and an email address should not be used as a username on any forum.

Hmmm...think some of this thread was at some point cut off. I was attempting to respond to the mail.gitoc post...didn't see any others and didn't catch the name difference since I thought it was the first post. Glad the OP got his problem resolved...back in 2012!

    Bots!
