MSE has been reporting this repeatedly and I tried simple methods, but couldn't get rid of it.

I ran the steps and attached the logs. Thanks.

    [IMG] Fix items using RogueKiller.

Double-click RogueKiller.exe to run. (Vista/7 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
When it opens, press the Scan button
Now click the files/folder tab and locate these detections:

    • [ZeroAccess][FOLDER] U : C:\$recycle.bin\S-1-5-18\$a3a410b3a5dcd6c8d0778f92bd11f01d\U --> FOUND
    • [ZeroAccess][FOLDER] U : C:\$recycle.bin\S-1-5-21-259015247-3345391752-3085885637-1001\$a3a410b3a5dcd6c8d0778f92bd11f01d\U --> FOUND
    • [ZeroAccess][FOLDER] L : C:\$recycle.bin\S-1-5-18\$a3a410b3a5dcd6c8d0778f92bd11f01d\L --> FOUND
    • [ZeroAccess][FOLDER] L : C:\$recycle.bin\S-1-5-21-259015247-3345391752-3085885637-1001\$a3a410b3a5dcd6c8d0778f92bd11f01d\L --> FOUND

Place a checkmark each of these items, leave the others unchecked.
    Now press the Delete button.
When it is finished, there will be a log on your desktop called: RKreport[2].txt
Attach RKreport[2].txt to your next message. (How to attach)
    Reboot the machine.

Please re run Hitman and have it delete Malware and Potential Unwanted Programs.

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    • O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)
    • O2 - BHO: DCA - {B49699FC-1665-4414-A1CB-C4A2A4A13EEC} - C:\Program Files\Upromise\dca-bho.dll
    • O2 - BHO: ToolHelper - {EDC0F17F-F4B7-47e4-B73E-887FAEB376FA} - C:\Program Files\Upromise\upromisetoolbar.dll

    • O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {b278d9f8-0fa9-465e-9938-0c392605d8e3} - (no file)
    • O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Upromise Tray] C:\Program Files\Upromise\UpromiseTray.exe
    • O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Upromise Update] C:\Program Files\Upromise\dca-ua.exe
    • O9 - Extra button: Upromise TurboSaver - {06E58E5E-F8CB-4049-991E-A41C03BD419E} - C:\Program Files\Upromise\upromisetoolbar.dll
    • O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Upromise TurboSaver - {06E58E5E-F8CB-4049-991E-A41C03BD419E} - C:\Program Files\Upromise\upromisetoolbar.dll

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    Delete these folders:
    • C:\Program Files\GRETECH
    • C:\Program Files\Upromise

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

Download Windows Repair by Tweaking.com and unzip the contents into a newly created folder on your desktop.
    • Now run Repair_Windows.exe by double clicking on it ( if you are running Vista or Win 7, use right click and select Run As Administrator)
    • Now select the Start Repairs tab.
    • The click the Start button.
    • Create a System Restore point if prompted.
    • On the next screen, click the Unselect All button to first deselect all repairs.
    • Now select the following repair options:
      • Reset Registry Permissions
      • Reset File Permissions
      • Register System Files
      • Repair WMI
      • Repair Windows Firewall
      • Remove Policies Set By Infections
      • Repair Winsock & DNS Cache
      • Repair Proxy Settings
      • Repair Windows Updates
      • Set Windows Services To Default Startup
    • Now on the lower right side check the box to Restart/Shutdown System When Finished
    • Then make sure the Restart System radio button is enabled.
    • Shutdown any other programs that you are running now before continuing.
    • Now click the Start button.
    • Be patient while the tool repairs the selected items.
    • It should reboot automatically when finished.

After reboot, check to see if your firewall is working.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista or Windows7) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Let me know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

I started Rogue Killer and ran Scan. I selected the files tab. There aren't check boxes under that tab, so I highlighted each of the four items and selected "Delete". I realized afterward that there were check boxes under the registry tab that were checked by default and the delete action deleted several of the registry entries even though that tab wasn't selected during the delete. Any action required to repair the delete? Reinstall Cubby and Carbonite?

    Rogue Killer log is attached.

    Ran Hitman and deleted all.

Ran analyse.exe and fixed selected entries.

    Deleted folders as directed.

    Successfully applied registry fix.

Ran Windows repair as directed. Firewall is up and running.

    MGlogs.zip is attached.

All processes went smoothly, with the exception of my mistake with Rogue Killer.

Were Upromise and Gompicker indicated for removal because they don't play well with the browser?

I had forgotten how fast this machine was. It appears to be running well at this point.
    Thank you!

My bad, you can reinstall those items if need be.

    Yes.

    Good ;)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Press and hold the Windows key [IMG] and then press the letter R on your keyboard. This opens the Run dialog box.
      • Copy and paste the below into the Run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 4 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    5. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others) and running MGclean.bat did not remove, you can delete these files now.
    8. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

I've worked through all of the final steps.
The computer is running great with no issues.

One last question. I just checked UAC and, even though I ran C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg , it left UAC at "Never Notify". What is the recommended setting for UAC?

Thanks very much for all the help!

You can turn UAC back to notify you if you wish. :)
