Default JDownloader being flagged as malware

Hi

I am not sure if this belongs here or in the software forum so feel free to move it if necessary.

This morning I scanned my PC with Spybot S&D and it flagged JDownloader as malware. A look at the Spybot forums brings this up http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=68230

Also on their detection updates page under 2013-04-03 http://www.safer-networking.org/about/updates/

This problem was also brought up on JDownloader's own forums, with the thread beginning from December and continuing to the present day. Warning - Language http://board.jdownloader.net/showthread.php?t=44832

If this program is indeed malware you may need to consider removing it from your website as it is available to download here http://www.majorgeeks.com/JDownloader_d6101.html

Just a heads up in case something needs to be done about it. If it is malware I would hate to lose it since it was a great program, but if it is going and installing toolbars and whatever without consent it has to go. Now I have to go find a new file downloader, any suggestions?

I would have to re-test it. Frankly given the choice of program out there, I don't know why anyone runs Java anymore, which this requires.

I am removing it now because I see the author wants to blame the third party program developer since December so he should have removed it and put it back when fixed. Sad.

It stinks that this had to happen as I found the program itself invaluable. Are there any non malware infected download managers you suggest? Someone has mentioned Mipony to me in another thread in the software forum, will give that one a try later.

There are a few under internet tools. I always wondered what people use them for in the broadband era?

For those poor sods like me who have terribly slow internet connections and want to shoot someone when a big download stops halfway through and my browser won't let me resume. Also, JDownloader was good in the way it could pick up links from file sharing websites, check if they were online, queue them up and ask for the captcha when the file was ready for download. (not for piracy purposes just to clarify)

It was also a pretty good video downloader for YouTube, it let you select what file type and quality you wanted to download a video at. I know there are 1000 other programs that can do this, but it was good to have all this functionality in one place.

Hi

I hear you on JDownloader and its an old app and not really been updated at all, so I would with slow internet and for users that wish to stack up downloads suggest Orbit Downloader as this is a currently updated app and really good, the usual caveats apply on install as to not agree to any other apps or adverts.

But I use this app as it can grab video off the internet very well, so should do your YouTube videos ok.

Thanks, however at the moment there is an awesome deal at GOG.com for a bundle of old games. So I am using the GOG.com downloader which at 100KB/s is going to take me over a week to download .

After that I will try Orbit Downloader and another called Mipony. I can't test any tools yet until after the GOG bundle is downloaded, I just don't have the bandwidth to spare without slowing down the entire household.

I really need a tool that can capture links from file sharing websites and queue them up and ask for the captcha when the file is ready for download. Also resuming ability is essential. YouTube downloading would be a plus too, but with the abundance of other standalone tools for this it is not absolutely necessary.

So thank you for your suggestion. I will try it as soon as my game bundle has completed downloading.
