today while running a full scan on my hp dv6446us laptop (i have windows xp running on it) avg 2013 reported a corrupted file in mfc45.dll in windows 32 folder i sent a sample to avg for them to analyze, but i also ran malware bytes and microsoft safety scanner both did full scans but found nothing.
could i have gotten a false positive from avg?:(
plus i'm sorry if i posted in the wrong group.

You said the file was corrupted! You did not say it was infected. If AVG is sayin corrupted ( which it probably is based on past history ) all I can say is a corrupted file does not necessarily mean it is infected. But my guess would be an issue with AVG. Not the first time. See >>http://forums.avg.com/us-en/avg-forums?sec=thread&act=show&id=163721

Interesting. Perhaps it was related to their tweak to improve file write times. Tools like this are not recommend by any of us in the malware forum anyway! ;)
