    Hey everyone,

I ran malwarebytes on an an Acer computer and after finding over 11, 000 infections and removing them it prompted me to restart. After the restart it will show the windows log then after a few seconds reboot again and go to the windows repair count down.

After the count down it scans to see if it can find problems and repair them or restore to a earlier time. It ask me if I would want to restore, I said no by accident. I tried it again and restarted but it will no longer ask to restore it, just says windows can not fix the problem.

Will someone help me please? I have tons of important documents on my computer.

Can this machine run in safe mode? (I may have to refer you to the software forum, but you can return here afterwards if necessary)

Kes needs to know what OS you are using.

Until Kes comes back, do the following:

Please do the below so that we can boot to System Recovery Options to run a scan. There will be two options to choose from. One if you do not have your Windows 7 boot DVD and another when you have your DVD.

For x32 (x86) bit systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to a flash drive.
For x64 bit systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool x64 and save it to a flash drive.

Plug the flashdrive into the infected PC.

Option1: Enter System Recovery Options from the Advanced Boot Options:
    • Restart the computer.
    • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until Advanced Boot Options appears.
    • Use the arrow keys to select the Repair your computer menu item.
    • Select US as the keyboard language settings, and then click Next.
    • Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
    • Select your user account an click Next.
Option2: Enter System Recovery Options by using Windows installation disc:
    • Insert the installation disc.
    • Restart your computer.
    • If prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc. If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or DVD, check your BIOS settings.
    • Click Repair your computer.
    • Select US as the keyboard language settings, and then click Next.
    • Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
    • Select your user account and click Next.
On the System Recovery Options menu you will get the following options:
    • Select Command Prompt
    • In the command window type in notepad and press Enter.
    • The notepad opens. Under File menu select Open.
    • Select "Computer" and find your flash drive letter and close the notepad.
    • In the command window type e:\frst.exe (for x64 bit version type e:\frst64) and press Enter
Note: Replace letter e with the drive letter of your flash drive.
    • The tool will start to run.
    • When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
    • Press Scan button.
    • It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please attach this file to your next reply. (See: How to attach)

    okay, I am trying thisnow

  7. rpmastermind

I have attached the appropriate file. And to the other question about safe mode, it will not allow me to boot into safe mode. Instead safe mode freezes after a while.

Save fixlist.txt to your flash drive.

    • You should now have both fixlist.txt and FRST.exe on your flash drive.

Now reboot back into the System Recovery Options as you did previously.
Run FRST and press the Fix button just once and wait.
The tool will make a log on the flashdrive (Fixlog.txt).
Please attach this to your next message. (See how to attach)

Now boot into normal Windows can continue with the below.

    Running MGTools.

That fix was very incomplete Tim. When the user returns we will see what they say but I'm going to go over what was missed in a second sweep.

I see that you two were discussing the incompletion of the fix, should I still try it or wait for the second sweep?

Run the fix and lets see what else we need to do.

  12. rpmastermind

    rpmastermind Private E-2

It keeps saying that I need to have the fixlist.txt in the same file or folder as frst.exe, but I do...

  13. rpmastermind

    rpmastermind Private E-2

Okay I have finally got it to work and attached the file.

It restarted and still went to the windows repair screen as before.

I probably will have to send you to the software forum as I am not seeing anything malicious. But I will give Kes a chance to chime in since she feels there is something I missed.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system

    Attached is fixlist.txt
    • Save fixlist.txt to your flash drive.
    • You should now have both fixlist.txt and FRST64.exe on your flash drive.

    Now re-enter System Recovery Options.
Run FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
The tool will make a log on the flashdrive (Fixlog.txt).
Please attach this to your next message. (How to attach)

Now attempt to boot normally and see if you can work your way through our malware removal procedures:

Okay, that removed alot but there's still junk that I can see. We need to see about getting you up and running again, and I *may* have to send you off to the software forum at some point, but remember, you need to come back here afterwards so we can continue malware removal procedures.

    Try this though first:

    FSecure Rescue CD

    OR....

    Try the Kaspersky Rescue Disk

Let me know how you get on.

  23. rpmastermind

    rpmastermind Private E-2

Okay, trying the rescue cd now.

  25. rpmastermind

    rpmastermind Private E-2

It ran and found 38 more infections and finish, however I still can not boot up :(

  26. rpmastermind

    rpmastermind Private E-2

If there is nothing left to try, is there a way I can just saved my picture folder to a flash drive and just restore my computer to factory settings *wish I didn't have too*

  27. rpmastermind

    rpmastermind Private E-2

When I tried to use safe mode it freezes at avgidasha.sys and then reboots

Please go ahead and make a post in the software forum about this. Explain that just after letting malware Bytes fix all those thousands of infections the machine will now not boot up properly.

Once you are up and running again, you can come here and complete full malware removal steps. :)

You can slave the drive to a different computer to try to save your work.
