Post Outlook Express been hijacked ?

Hi Geeks

My sister rang yesterday to say that she cannot see any message bodies in her outlook express even though they are fine when she reads them online.

I suggested uninstalling and reinstalling oe but it is not listed in her windows components. Any ideas how to remove and reinstall?

I also suggested she did a hijckthis scan and this is the result:-

[edit]Hijack This log file removed. Please post as an attachment and only when asked[/edit]

Any help you can give her will be gratefully passed on.

What type of e-mail account is it?

If it is Hotmail or similar then my guess here is that it is the synchronisation settings for the e-mail account which are set to download headers only. If you select the Outlook Express Inbox where the e-mail is downloaded to and right-click. You should see a menu that has Synchronisation settings with one of them indicated as default. Try selecting the setting that does not have the Headers Only setting. The Outlook Express help for this states:

To specify what you want to download

You can make all messages, only headers, or only new messages available for offline viewing by changing the synchronization settings for IMAP, HTTP, or news server folders.

From the Folders list, select an IMAP server, an HTTP server, or a news server.
In the main window, select one or more folders or newsgroups.
Click Settings, and then click to change the setting to one of the following:
All Messages
New Messages Only
Headers Only
If you do not want messages from a particular folder or newsgroup to be downloaded, click Don't Synchronize.

Thanks Maxwell. I explained this to my sister and she has amended the settings. All seems fine now. She has also told me that her 10yr old daughter had been messing about with the pc so it is quite likely that she changed the settings without realising it.

i wish she had told me that before so it may have helped diagnose things

Thanks General.

as you can see OE is sorted now. Anything in the log that you would recommend removing? I am more of a hardware person myself but my family like to throw all their software problems too.

Dear Mr. Maxwell.....
I am having the same problem as bubbleblower where there is no text in the email messages I receive. I have tried to follow your directions, but they don't make sense to me. What folders list are you talking about and where do I find it? This is driving me crazy.

You said to do the following:
From the Folders list, select an IMAP server, an HTTP server, or a news server.
In the main window, select one or more folders or newsgroups.
Click Settings, and then click to change the setting to one of the following:
All Messages
New Messages Only
Headers Only
If you do not want messages from a particular folder or newsgroup to be downloaded, click Don't Synchronize.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
