Last night I downloaded and installed Spybot SD 1.3 RC5. It installed fine. When I immunized it stated that there was 20+ items more that I was protected from. Then it asked if I wanted it to run to which I replied "yes". It opened to the screen that runs and I can see different graphics from the RC 4 that I had installed previously, but at the top it clearly says "Spybot search and Destroy 1.3 RC4. I did not install teaTimer (ever). It appeared to run fine. Should I be concerned? It downloaded to the same folder as the other.

I had also installed that version over the 1.2 and had several problems, so I uninstalled both and reinstalled 1.2 again and have been good ever since. There is absolutely nothing wrong with 1.2. :) :)

lavasoft adaware6 is free too....and better

hmmm. i never saw that, apparently spybot is good n all but ......try adaware6 its free, and it comes from its home, lavasoft....not a bunch of bogus links which could add a few unknowns....like the one you speak.

Jaza, There is absolutely nothing bogus about SpyBot. The TeaTimer item being referred to is part of the newer versions. Boccemon just chose not to install it. Ad-aware is good but by itself it is not sufficient. Ad-aware & SpyBot S&D together are a good choice. I even add a third which I use as a blocker and a home page protector - SpySweeper.

Boccemon, I believe the correct approach to installing the latest versions of SpyBot is to uninstall the old version first. People have had fewer problems that way especially with the TeaTimer resource issue.

    Thank you

Good idea....at present I run SpyWareBlaster, SpyBot S/D, AdAware 6, and Avast! I think that is enough (I hope). I just didn't understand why the proggie still identifies itself as RC4. Thank you for the suggestion!!

OOPS....my bad. I slipped it right over the old. When I get home from work I'll delete/re-install. Thanks Chas. The reason that I did not chose to install the TeaTimer is from what I've read in previous posts.

RC = beta = incorrect verion = something overlooked not important. All is well. Release is expected anytime, so it should be all set soon enough.

I bought Ad-Aware Plus (AdWatch), and as well run S@D, and SWB. I have 2 rigs. The gamer rig has these softwares installed. The rig I usually use for Dedicated server running, my little girl uses to surf to sites like Neopets.
I have had no problems with where I surf on MY rig, but the other rig has been PLAGUED by coolwebsearch like no ones business with the exact same setup for protection MY gamer rig has. AdWatch and Ad-Aware Plus just lets it all come marching in. The Teatimer and Search and Destroy do nothing, all this stuff just tells me its here. I even get asked for confirmation if I wanna block even tho it (AdWatch)is set up to autoblock EVERYTHING. I hit "yes" block. And the CWS sh*t still is installed. It is like it is sitting in memory just waiting to install itself as the bootup sequence gets to desk and the apps are not loaded yet.
3 times DAILY I have had to manually remove this stuff. At wits end I decided to try SpywareStopper. And since installing it, the other rig has not been hijacked once by CWS. Which leaves me wondering what is the problem with Ad-Aware Plus that AdWatch doesn`t block this thing. Why does the Teatimer not block this stuff... nothing has BUT SpyWareStopper. So, I guess I gotta buy SpyWareStopper now. Oh the inhumanity. lol

The problem? Cool web search are some mean, scummy , disgusting people, thats what. I think Spyware Blaster (see review on todays front page) blocks over 1,500 different variants. They change things up almost daily. They DOS attack websites that host the file CWShredder including us. They try and block access to these websites as well.

I am always confused where you all get these things from , I have never had Coolweb search installed. I get a couple spyware items here and there, usually a couple cookies, thats about all and I surf on and off 16 hours a day, 7 days a week.

You`re confused? Same here dude. I have both PCs sitting side by side almost and I never get any stuff other than a single tracker now and then. My kid gets on the other rig, Ad-Aware/AdWatch running in autoblock mode, Teatimer running, AVG running.... All seems fine. She surfs to sites that are supposed to be kids sites, tho I am amazed at the adults hanging out on Neopets.
The next thing I know she calls me cause a popup message saying a registry attempted change has occured, which should have been autoblocked btw, I click block, and it still installed. Then I use Ad-Aware and find always 7 to 9 CWS entries. AboutBlank is in there too.
I have closed the PC down for the night, and as soon as I open it in the morning, instantly a popup comes up saying the same thing. Asks for block or accept confirmation. I mean right at reboot/startup, the thing must sit in memory. Or else a reg entry was made that these apps are not opted to stop as of yet.

SpyWareStopper however does work. Haven`t had the other PC hijacked since. I am happy the other apps stop 1500 + bad stuff. But the stuff thats getting me is the problem. lol And only SpyWareStopper has fixed it so far. I think you are right, the bad guys are hanging at kids sites cause kids will click on anything.
