Now before anyone thinks this is a n00bistic cry for help it isn't. It's just a "rant" at perhaps your members/staff. Yesterday was the release of Patchou's very popular add-on for MSN Messenger, Messenger Plus! 3. On the forums yesterday all the "senior" members were braced for a tough day. Later on in the evening when things had quietened down a bit a thread was posted by a member named Zar. After being very rude to one of the veteran members of the forum, Keystorm, he got a shouting at. Then confinded in me via PM. He gave me a reason why you don't post a link to Plus! on your site.

"Tim and I download and test every file prior to posting. Good program or not, we wont post stuff like that. Most people aren’t as diligent or informed as you to be able to remove the garbage."

Garbage? That happens to be a man's wage. A man who deserves it as much as you or I. And have you not noticed it's optional? He then pointed me in the direction of an e-mail you sent to him.

"It’s not an accident – It is planned and you have to read and agree to it in the installation, otherwise the program will not install. I really don’t mind ad-ware per se’ I mean we do have a few listed. But a homepage hijacker and LOP? That’s just not called for."

    Uhm just view the attachment.

If you would like I can post the CORRECT way to uninstall/remove the sponser program.

How many people read those things? Honestly. I know it's an accountability issue, but in all my time doing this, I've seen it time and time again that most people just blow right past those things and then complain afterwards. Avoiding that from the get go is the only way to prevent this. Hence by not listing the item, the cry for "IT'S AD/SPY WARE" is eliminated. Have you seen the spyware forum lately? This is a part of the forums that I'm sure MG doesn't want to be lambasted in even if it were the fault of the user. It just saves time and hassle.

I can't comment on anything else but that. I've used the program in the past and have thought it to be a nice app. Of course I don't recall having seen the inclusion of the "sponsor" software if that gives you any idea of how long ago it was since I used it.

On a side note, I don't have any ownership in MG. I am a volunteer who happens to understand more than the average Joe of how MG works behind the scenes.

I am not trying to have Plus! added. I couldn't care less. However I am not amazingly happy about those e-mails and their content. I understand your point about people flying through but as you can see where I have cirsled Plus! cannot install untill the user selects an option.

Like I mentioned before. It's an accountability issue. You can lead a horse to water but you have cut off his head and stick in the river to make him drink.. ya follow?

Okay I agree but I thought this way I could enlighten everyone at the same time. Also I do not know their e-mails.

Like I said. enlighten everyone. The owners are members of these forums?

yes, but it's much more efficient to email them, though you will find that they are aware of the Opt-out ability during the install.

    Sounds like it too.

Bullshit. Spyware is installed regulalry by taking advantage of the fact that most people do not read the install, they just do it. You know that. Sorry, if you do not like it, but that program is the same as any other program, like Kazaa. Kazaa isnt spyware, but it installs it. Its the newest trick to install that garbage and calling it an option is a sham like anything else. If your program is any good, and I understand those who use Messenger seem to like it, then charge a nominal fee or ask for donations, but dont list a program as freeware that *cough* optionally installs some pretty crappy spyware. As Jim said, we could understand advertising or some basic items, not all spyware is really spyware, but your doing a browser hijack and LOP? Luckily, it appears SpywareBlaster will not even allow me to start the install, it beeps and refuses to install. There is nothing left to say on this. Programs submitted here are added if and when we decide our readers will like and can trust it. Ill admit, were not perfect, but we try. Few do this. This is 2 nasty programs attempting to install spyware this week while simply coming off as freeware. We are correct, we are protecting our readers, we are finished with this conversation. Sorry if we started some trouble at your forums, but we just do not feel that this new tactic is appropriate. Next time, ask them to change the wording so it reads:

1st choice: Free install, please see donation button

2nd choice: Please, install spyware, hijack my homepage and do whatever you want to my computer making using my own PC more difficult, sometimes impossible to use.

    Thats how it should read.

I notice no one is coming to your defense here.

I noticed that to but then since no-one from the forum know that I am here It would make sense. Plus! does not decided to install the ad-ware whether you choose to or not. If that was the case then we wouldn't have 2 MILLION people downloading a month. I have also attached the new screenshot. I chose to opt out of the sponser because all the people I help and their stories are bad. I have never had one piece of ad/spyware on my PC related to Lop.com or C2Media.

Most every program has basic terms to which you need to agree to. The difference here is that those terms are to install some real scumware. Adding it as a checkbox makes it no better. Its sneaky to me, especially with what it installs. I understand what your saying, basically its a decent free program. Too bad it has a dark side, one I am willing to bet at least 40% fall for.

Oh wait, I already said that, so you can post that screenshot all you want, it simply validates that if your not paying attention, your getting loaded with some really shitty spyware and a hijack. I am still leaving the thread open because it may have gotten 4 million downloads according to claims, but 500,000 a day will not get it from us and I am still waiting for anyone to take your side.

    I sleep good at night.

The words "sponsor program" are very misleading. Most people will think that sounds pretty harmless. Only computer savvy users are educated enough to know what that really means. Having it setup as an 'option' does not change the fact that the scumware pushers are trying to take advantage of the average computer user. I question the integrity of anyone who includes that crap in their software.

Have you ever tried the software? Can you put your hand on your heart and say it is shit? I don't think you can. Yes the adware that comes with it is this programs one ****ing downfall. You can say all you like about the sponser program. But in all truth you don't have to have that. And if you can't see that your very blind.

Its a downfall that means it won't be installed on my machine.

I would take back to your forum that the consensus believes this program should not have spyware, even if you can opt out.

What do most people do when they install?

    "Click"
    "Click"
    "Click"
    "Click"
    "Click"
    "reboot if required"

In that order, and that fast. They do not read EULAs, they do not check to see if spyware is installing.

Your program would be fine if the internet was made up of power users and geeks who watch for these things.

By large the net is not.

You guys don't prey on the computer savvy people, you prey on the mad clickers. And that my friend, is a bunch of BS.

Even with eight legs GiantSpider, you don't have one to stand on here.

So even if the speed clickers CAN NOT install without choosing an option? I can see there is no point in me fighting the case any longer. You all have your eyes firmly closed. And for that I have pitty on you.

Kazaa is a cool program too. Whats your point? I never, ever said Messenger Plus was not cool, actually I said, the word on the street is that it IS a good program.

I do not need your pity. If theres any pity to be had, I think this thread reflects that your poor reading and comprehension skills combined are just horrible.

We are repeating the same thing over and over back and forth. You say it warns you that it install spyware, I say that I think its sneaky. Problem here is your taking advantage of the speed clickers. Were protecting them. THOSE ARE the people who get more spyware then anyone because of bullshit like this. Thats it. Not one person came to yor defense because, well, your wrong. Anyone who knows me also knows I admit when I am wrong and I feel we are justified not adding this program.

    EULA's optional choice

OK - I'll admit I don't ALWAYS read ALL the EULA's with a program. Anyway, if I were to look at this one and saw what it said about installing without the "sponsor program" I wouldn't understand it. What does that mean? Since it will keep my "favorite MSN add-on alive" well - don't I have to have that? They make it sound like that would not be a wise thing to do so I'd certainly want to install it with the sponsor program (the way it's worded- to me anyways).
