In computers. We run tests to see how our computer runs compared to another just like it or better or worse ones. Its good to see how the computers perform so you can tweek and fix problems to get better performance.

Or more accuratley, it lets you know whether a "tweak" has improved the performance of a machine or not, and if it has, exactly where its improved.

As far as benchmarking a Mac is concerned. What OS are we talking about here? Probably the easiest option is a game that works on both. (Unreal Touranment? They released a version for Linux.. not sure about mac though. ) And running a set of demos and logging the framerate for each (if you want to know a gaming performance rating, that is)

You MIGHT be able to emulate PCMark.... but I fear that the emulation will throttle it, giving you an invalid result.

A prediciment, to be sure...

i kinda wanted to compare them .. so id need one that is compatible with both PC and Mac ... but ill try and find out how to do that photoshop benchmark ... all id really want is something that measures MIPS or some similar test ... im not too familiar the whestone dhrystone(sp?) tests . .. i do now that MIPS=millions of instructions per second .. but thats as far as i go on that ... but thnx ... i know PCs dominate so its hard to find stuff for Macs and i havent used one since i switched to PC 2 years ago
