Updated Spybot but still DSO Exploit

    I am running Spybot 1.3 and the latest update (8-11-04) but DSO Exploit is still showing up on my laptop. I am running the same Spybot configuration on my desktop but no DSO is showing up there. Anyone have any ideas as to why the bug in Spybot seems to be repaired on the desktop but not on the laptop. I missed the July Spybot update on my laptop. Could this be the problem? Aren't all previous updates included in the latest update?

    On your desktop, open spybot and go to settings, ignore products. If DSO exploits is checked that is why they are not showing up.

    FYI: When you open the Spybot program you have to be running in "advanced mode" to do this, not "default mode"

    Go to the top bar where it says File Mode Language Help and click on Mode and chose Advanced.

    I don't want DSO Exploit to show up, so actually the problem is with my laptop rather than my desktop. It is not a big deal, but I thought the fact that DSO Exploit continued to show up in Spybot was the result of a bug that was repaired in one of the updates. I am just confused as to why the update seemed to eliminate its appearance in my desktop and not my laptop, as I am running the same OS (MS XP Pro) and the same Spybot configuration in both.

    But didn't one of the last two Spybot updates repair the DSO Exploit bug? It is just weird that DSO Exploit is only appearing on my laptop when both my laptop and desktop are running the same configurations....Is anyone else still getting a DSO Exploit warning when they run the updated Spybot?

    Apparently not! And some people seem to have the problem while others never do. I have at least 10 PCs (Win98Se, Win2K, and WinXP) all using SpyBot and none of them ever had this problem. However, all of my PCs already had all of the Microsoft Critical Updates installed prior to putting SpyBot on them. I don't know if that makes a difference or not but it is an observation. I have seen mention of a Beta Release 1.3.1 (in the link I gave previously) of SpyBot but it does not seem to exist anywhere.

    Let's qualify that with "If your PC is up to date with all of Microsoft's Critical Updates, just ignore it".

    You can also configure SpyBot to ignore it to using the Advanced Mode, Settings, Ignore Products option.

    Thanks for all your responses. I am up to date on Microsoft's critical updates.

    For Everyone,

    The Beta Main 1.3.1 update has fixed the DSO Exploit bug and a bunch of others however it is a beta and has other problems. I would stay away from it for now unless you want to deal with the variety of other issues that are typical in beta versions. We all know about the DSO Exploit bug & the "fixed "Ungültiger Datentyp" bug in BHO list" bug some have seen. Just live with them for now.

    Here is some more info on what is fixed in the Beta (but it does not contain a list of known problems in the Beta):

    This is a short list of important changes:
    * fixed DSO bug
    * fixed update download from ftp server bug
    * fixed /autoimmunize clp
    * fixed "Ungültiger Datentyp" bug in BHO list
    * made even compiler error messages to appear in English instead of German
    * fixed hosts file back restore problem
    * fixed mixup of help topics
    * immunize now honors ignore list
    * system startup now sees WinLogon section as well
    * report exports improved (including additional version information)
    * some broken (external) links from info pages were updated
    * process list improved to work better with Windows NT
    This is just the most important of about a hundred changes in all (most cosmetic or minor only).

    Not true. You could have a real DSO Exploit issue unless you have performed the updates.
