Angry Need help!

A few weeks ago I had a nasty spyware problem. I managed to rid myself of most of it, aside of CATLEvents, which hung around but didn't really cause any problems. But the past few days some odd things have been going on. Whenver I start up my computer, I have about a good 20-30 minutes before my Internet Explorer stops working. It will either go nowhere, and flash something at the bottom quickly about WINDOWS32 (too quick for me to read), or it will throw a ///%20 in front of the address I type in. My internet connection is still good and I stay signed on to AIM. After a few hours, my AIM will sign off, saying something about error 1 or 8. Anyone?

Hi Achilles7401,

Please take a run through the steps HERE:
http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407

Make note of the ones that you can and cannot complete. Post back and let us know where you stand.

If a HijackThis log is needed, please read this first:

Best luck,

I have done all that is mentioned fairly recently (about a month ago). I will try again and post what happened, but its getting increasingly difficult as I only have a short window to access the internet. I will try to print out the instructions from another computer and give them a go. I can tell you that I've done most of what's asked (system restore, ad-aware, etc.) but to no avail...

A month is a long time in the malware world. Many of the programs to fix problems have updated multiple times in a month. You need to update. Also malware itself evolves and changed significantly in a month.

20 or 30 minutes is a reasonable amount of time to perform updates if you are on a Cable or DSL connection. If you are on dial-up, getting all the updates in that time frame will be difficult.

If you really cannot get the items from the READ ME tutorial, just download the current Hijack This and then exit all browser sessions (including the one you are reading in right now) and run a scan. Save the log to a .txt file instead of the default .log file and post it back here as an attachment to your message.
