Default Wireless Question....Can someone help?

HI! I am new to the site, and I can’t believe I have never been here.. Shame on me!!

I searched for this type of question, but I only saw a lot of LAPTOP answers, so hopefully this will not be repetitive, if so pls direct me to a previous answer and I will happily read!

I want to install a wireless router for my cable connection, basically only for 1 PC... Problem is, we are low on space and where I want to put the PC there is no CABLE JACK to connect to and the room is so wide open that running wires from the jack is not a viable option.

SO is there an easy way to install a wireless connection so that I can move the pc to where I want? Or is it a bad idea all around. My wife will be using it to work at home in the coming months, but other than that we just use it to surf etc.

I am running Win XP with 1 GB of RAM and a TON of HD space (over 300 gab)

Are there any routers that you guys recommend? And any ideas how to set this bad boy up?

Again, sorry if this is a re-post, pls feel free to direct me to any links I may have missed.

Thanks in advance

Matt

It can be done.

The only problem might be in time of configuration. Sometimes you need a Wire computer in order to do certain configurations.

If you have a Laptop with both Wire and Wireless then get a short CAT5e cable and keep it in case it is needed.

Otherwise you might consider buying a PCMCIA Wire card for emergency (they go for about $20).

The computer can be configured for the Wire Card and the Wireless and it will work with the one that is plugged in (only one at the time).

I should have added this, it is a Desktop, not a laptop. Not sure if that matters at all.

Also is there another piece of equiptment needed? Like a Card for the PC?
