Hi there, I hope someone can assist. My friend has a PC, monitor, printer and a dazzle box (dazzle being hardware that attaches to the PC to help with editing vhs tapes to cd etc).
OK, the electricity supply in my friends home is phase 3. What sort of UPS is suitable with this type of electricity supply or does it matter?
We have had a recent problem whereby the hard drive mysteriously became unusable/unreadable. Could a power problem have been the reason?
    Thanks for your time.

Are you sure that the house is fed with 3 phase? Usually that is only wired to commercial buildings.

hi, thanks for a reply. yes, i know this is usually for commercial buildings but the building in question is a home and has 3 phase (the peeople living there own their own security company and has all manner of hi-tech gizmos etc). I was told yesterday that although there is 3 phase, where the computer is situated, it is single phase!!?? i hope this is not too confusing. They also inform me that they have bought surge protectors already, are these going to be any good?
    regards
    julie

The house being wired 3phase should'nt matter, alot of places are wire this way. The only way to tell if it's wired right is to get a electrician to check it out. But if something was wrong it would pop more then HD.Most all stores, mall's ect. are 3phase. You can pull 110 v. off (most) 3phase.The surge protectors are a good idea in any case, but still wont stop a large surge.Being a electrician I don't think this is your problem. Good luck.

    Ditto...

Any good UPS would protect it the system. Your still only getting a single phae feed.
