SOund card cant be detected by system.....HELP!

Hi,
A couple of days ago the yellow colored volume icon at the bottom right disappeared from my pc. I was not able to listen to any audio, it said:

System cant detect the audio hardware.......what can i do ????????

P3 500 MHZ,128 mb ram, Intel 810 chipset (with inbuilt soundcard i guess) The soundcard was named SoundMax Digital Audio prior to all this..

Any suggestions ?

Actually.......i find lot of PC users having the same problem.......
So just want to know....

1.What is the best possible solution for Intel 810 soundamx digital audio ' problem ?

I am just frustrated.......but how can i replace that one with an external HQ sound card ?????????
It seems the 810 mother-board has no socket for an external sound card.....and it has its won in-build SCARD....that means i cant!!!!!
How can i install a brand new sound card on this mother board?????????

hm....i have 56 kb connection.......and the file was 24MB.....so........!
OK.....now i just want get rid of it and try a new one........any suggestion which sound card best for my machine...??????
