My son had a Verto G-force FX 128 Mb pci Video card that he no longer used. I was told that adding this to my computer would free up some memory and make my pages display quicker and better.

How do I disable the internal graphics card?

I've installed the new vc, but have to plug the monitor into it's normal serial port to display the desktop after it boots up. When connected to the serial port on the vc it will only display the www.dell.com bootup screen. If I unplug it from the vc and plug it into the normal monitor serial on the back of the pc everything is normal.

You have to access the BIOS as the machine is starting up, on many machine this is the DEL or F1 key. Once you are in the BIOS setup look through the screens and you will find an option that allows you disable onboard VGA.

Once you have done this, saved and exited the machine will restart and then treat your new card as the only one. Of course once in Windows you need to install the latest drivers, (available online), and you're good to go

Edit: Start with the monitor plugged into your onboard port, once you have made the BIOS changes, and saved turn the machine off and reattach the monitor to the new vid card and restart

I was able to disable mine through Windows. Might have been my model in particular though.

I went into the bios and changed it from internal to pci and it still did the same thing.

Most of the time if you install an AGP video card it will disable the onboard video, but not if you use a PCI card.
if you go to control panel>display>settings does it show 2 monitors, if it does check extend my windows on to this monitor and see if it works.

There is a possibility that there could be jumpers on the motherboard to disable the onboard video. I have seen this several times. :)

Boot to windows, right-click My Computer and select properties. Select the device manager tab. Under display adapters, right-click the on-board video, and hit properties. There'll be a check box marked disable this hardware, or something like that. Hit it, and it should tell you to restart. Do so, and plug into the new VC. That should do the trick.

You need to disable your onboard video card from within the BIOS. Hit F1 when your PC turns on, and that'll get you to the BIOS screen. Look around for the
mention of video card and disable it. Doing it from the Control Panel only confuses the PC. I just went thru this exercise myself.

I'm having a similar problem but with my sound card. I got a new sound card, installed a new OS (Win2k) and now I can't disable my onboard sound. It doesn't show up in the BIOS and everytime I remove it through device manager, Windows finds new Hardware

The card is CMI8330/C3D Audio Adapter

And it finds itself FOUR times. (ie. in device manager it looks like this:

    ?Other Devices

    ?CMI8330/C3D
    ?CMI8330/C3D
    ?CMI8330/C3D
    ?CMI8330/C3D

This problem is causing significant lag and my new card sounds like the matrix buzz when they come out of the matrix and in. :(
