I have been having overheating issues with my 1.4 Athlon Thunderbird. I had problems with games freezing ever since I had replaced my GForce2 for a GForce4 card, and now even more with my Radeon 9800 Pro. My idle cpu temp is 48 C (with the side case off) and around 51-52 C when loaded. I have an 80 mm thermaltake outtake fan but there's no hole for an intake. I don't know how high it gets when I attempt to run a high-end game but it has to be at least 60 C. Additionally, there's this high pitched noise present at all times that gets higher when the CPU is calculating stuff...even with the slightest mouse-scroll!

Is my "good 'ole" Thunderbird malfunctioning? For now, even playing The Sims 2 is a far off dream! Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Sounds suspiciously like your PSU isn't coping - what have you got?
