You can use WEP and ensure that you are assigning static IP's, disable the DHCP on that router.

I have. In fact, most of the wireless routers I've come across from linksys have mac filtering. You may need updated firmware, mind, which must be done from a wired connection.

Also, you saying "people stealing it".... what do you mean? Are people actually using your connection, or are you just afraid that someone might?

    Some easy steps for you:

Turn down the transmission power so you have good coverage, but doesn't stray out onto the road. On the edges of your property, make sure there is a low signal.

    Enable WEP.

Place the router as near to the center of your property as you can. That means more of the signal area is within your property.

Try a program like AirSnare. This can help you to detect unauthorised access, and you have logs to present to authorities, should you need to report "theft of service"

skip WEP and go for WPA if your router supports it. It's harder to crack than WEP and the overhead is minimal.

Additionally, disable broadcasting of your SSID and edit your security settings for MAC filtering. Any wi-fi card that you want to connect to your node should have its' MAC address in the filter set to "ALLOW".

mac filter should do the trick.

Dunno if anyone mentioned this but to find your mac address use the ipconfig/all command line utility. The MAC address is listed as the physical address. If ever switch cards though you will no longer be able to access your router and it will have to be reset.

MAC filtering does not encrypt any data. MAC filtering is ONLY used as a restriction to access for the node. WEP and WPA do both but should those security measures be circumvented, then using MAC filtering will atleast keep them out of your network but they'll still be able to sniff.

Im not sure he really wanted to encrypt or just to limit access which is why I suggested the MAC filter, it is simple to impliment
