Hey guys, I was on here a couple of weeks ago with spyware problems. I think I had about:blank and various other problems. With your help my computer is fine, but it seems to be very slow. Is there any way to see what unnecessary processes are running to help this or do you think I'm going the wrong direction. Also, since the beginning of my spyware problems, NAV has found a file called HDPlugin1101.dll(adware.gator) in my downloaded program files but it is not visible when I navigate to that folder. I have selected to show all files and that doesn't make a difference. Has anyone ever heard of this particular file and do you think my computer speed is related? Any and all help greatly appreciated.

Yes, its very possible because Gator is adware that can and will slow down your machine.

    • Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT
    • Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the ZIP file.
    • Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.
    • Run HijackThis and save your log file.
    • Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next post. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

Do this for me, click Start > Run > type in msconfig

Click the Startup Tab and check ALL boxes. When prompted DO NOT REBOOT!

Scan with HJT and attach the new log.

I did what you said and when I typed in msconfig, clicked the OK button I got this message:
Cannot find the file 'msconfig'(or one of its components). Make sure the path and file name are correct and that all required libraries are available.
    Did I do something wrong?

I forgot to mention that I'm running Windows 2000 Professional if you need that info.

Your HJT log is clean! Do you use RealPlayer a lot? There are quite a few processes running of RealPlayer is why I ask.

Look in Add/Remove Programs for the following and uninstall if found:

    Gator

    GAIN

    Date Manager

    OfferCompanion

    Claria

    Gator eWallet

Also, you can run the online scans:

    Bitdefender online scan
RavAntivirus online scan <-- select Auto Clean then click Scan My PC
    TrojanScan online scan

I don't have any of things listed in my Add/Remove programs. I don't use real player that often either so if there's a process running from it I would love to kill it. Anymore thoughts about that HDPlugin1101.dll that NAV finds (but won't fix)? For some reason that is really bugging me that it won't show up.

Whats the EXACT location of the file?

Probably going to be in C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files

The exact location is: C:\WINNT\Downloaded Program Files\CONFLICT.1\HDPlugin1101.dll and I there is another file also and it is: C:\WINNT\Downloaded Program Files\CONFLICT.1\IEGator.dll. But when I navigate to the Downloaded Program Files folder it is completely empty.

    Download Pocket KillBox

Now, Copy and Paste C:\WINNT\Downloaded Program Files\CONFLICT.1\HDPlugin1101.dll into the box – If it exists, it will show up in Blue. Check the option to Delete on Reboot and Click the Red X and Yes to the confirmation message. A message will ask if you want to reboot now – Click NO.

Now, Copy and Paste C:\WINNT\Downloaded Program Files\CONFLICT.1\IEGator.dll into the box – If it exists, it will show up in Blue. Check the option to Delete on Reboot and Click the Red X and Yes to the confirmation message. A message will ask if you want to reboot now – Click YES.

After reboot, see if NAV still detects it.

I don't know where you find all these useful downloads but the Pocket Killbox wiped both files out. Thanks again!!!

Not that I know of. IE does seem a little slow when it first opens but then it gets going just fine. I may be trying Firefox before to long.

I would recommend Firefox over IE because its safer ;)
