because i have 3 PC's that all have XP on them & each one is a lil more faster then the other, so i'm wanna put 98 on the slowest, plus i can play some games that XP won't :)

    BTW, its formated in NTFS

How big is the drive? 98SE doesn't support drives larger than 137gig.

As far as partioning and formating the drive I would using the drive manufacters software.

You can delete the NTFS partition from the XP recovery console using the following command:

    diskpart /delete \Device\HardDisk0 C:

You will have to FDISK the drive and delete the NTFS partitions and Create new FAT 32 partitions and make them active then format and install new operating system.

To start the computer and use the Recovery Console

    From the Setup CD-ROM

    1. Insert the Setup compact disc (CD) and restart the computer. If prompted, select any options required to boot from the CD.

    2. When the text-based part of Setup begins, follow the prompts; choose the repair or recover option by pressing R.

    3. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot system, choose the installation that you need to access from the Recovery Console.

    4. When prompted, type the Administrator password.

    5. At the system prompt, type diskpart /delete \Device\HardDisk0 C:

    6. To exit the Recovery Console and restart the computer, type exit.

Download the Disktools/Partitioning software from the web site of the HD manufacterer. It is bootable media and you can use it to setup the drive with a FAT32 partition.

XP will most likely play your old games. Use the compatibility feature.

If it absolutely refuses to boot from CD. Download the startup disk from Bootdisk.com

    If 98 installed it's a FAT partition. No 98 won't read NTFS.

You can use NTFS Reader for DOS to read and copy files from the other drive.
