Update video drivers? How?

I had asked how I get the Stand By button displayed (it is greyed out) and Adrynalyne answered by advising me update my video drivers but I don't know how! How DO I do it?

 

You need to know what kind of video card you have, then you can search the manufacturer's site for drivers or a place like driverguide.com
if you look in device manager under display adapters, what does it say?

 

Thank you - but my Devide Manager doesn't sem to have anything as helpful as Display Adaptors. Bur the monitor is made by Proview (model 780) and they don't let you download drivers as they say that it uses Plug and Play stuff. I'm beaten because I don't even know how to check them!

 

Honestly, and personally, I would turn off your PC when not in use, and not worry about standby. Even XP can use fresh memory every once in awhile, with all the 'questionable' apps people run these days. Your video card may have something to do with it, but more likely it's the acpi support of your mainboad that's at fault. Depending on your bios (when you turn your PC on, it should say 'press del to enter setup' or 'press f2 to enter setup') there should be a power management section, see if acpi is enabled.

edit: No diplay adapter? do you have any 'unkown devices' or yellow question marks in your device manager?

 

Get Everest http://majorgeeks.com/EVEREST_Home_Edition_d4181.html , install and run it. Open the file tree under Computer (1 in screenshot) and select Summary. Click on the name of your video adapter (2 in screenshot) and it will open a small window with links to drivers and info about the card. Click on the drivers link and your browser will take you to the driver download section of your video card's site.
