Default Lack Of Accountability

i'm so sick of these professional athletes not taking responsiblity for their actions... here these guys are making millions of dollars and they can't even own up to their mistakes... they want you to believe their trainers just hand them these mysterious substances and don't tell them what they're taking.... it's such a heaping load of crap... this is Rafaelro Palmeiro's latest statement regarding his suspension for testing positive for steroids: "Today I am telling the truth again that I did not do this intentionally or knowingly.''... it's such a cop out... all they have to do is continue lying and acting negligent and eventually the media storm blows over and their reputation is salvaged... i'd actually respect these guys more if they would stand up, and admit their wrongdoings and apologize to their fans

players like Mark McGuire obviously weren't even truthful at the Congressional hearing... he kept reiterating things like "what's in the past is in the past, lets move on"... if you could ever read deceipt on someone's face that was an instance of it...

my impression is that Canseco didn't lie about anybody in his book... i believe he exposed people (albeit for the wrong reasons) that were involved in steroid use... Palmeiro was one of the guys he mentioned in his book

i cherish the South Park "Special Olympics" episode where they ream McGuire, Giambi, and Sosa at the end... most classic dialogue ever

thier explanation basically boils down to "he told me to do it,hes the trainer"
As you should respond to a child "If I told you to stick your hand in the fire you wouldnt would you?,Go to your room-erm,Cell"

Alot of it boils down to people not wanting to believe thier heroes arnt cheats and they havnt wasted thier life rooting for a cheat,if they blindly carry on believing thier heroes are innocent ie Michael jackson, they can escape the feeling of idiocy and the stars are more than happy to go along with them

The first problem is calling or thinking about athletes as "heroes". They're not heroes. None of them They're overpaid overage children getting lots of money to play mostly children's games on TV. They play well. Great. That's not heroic.

Patrick Henry was a hero. Audie Murphy was a hero. Firemen running up into the burning Trade Center towers were heroes. Lots of (but not all) of our military personnel are heroes. Astronauts that climb into the Shuttles knowing there's a fair risk they won't come home may be considered heroes. A father that gets up faithfully and goes to work while dying of cancer to keep putting bread on his kids' table as long as possible is a hero.

But NOT athletes. Our values have gone to hell.

yeah Rikky they definetely shift the blame to their trainers and "medical personnel"... that's like Bonds claiming he didn't know what was in the "clear cream" they were applying to his body... do they really take the public for idiots?

Yes. Yes they do. And the public keeps going to the games, and cheering as Bonds nears Ruth's, then Aaron's marks. And the idiots will cheer when he takes the lead in home runs. ::
