Multiplayer games on XP with crossover cable

Hi!

Can anyone help me here? I'm trying to play Delta Force 2 on 2 machines connected with a crossover cable and 100Mbps NIC's. The computers are both running on Widows XP SP2. Firewalls are down, NETBEUI installed, file sharing works fine, but hosted games are not picked up by the other machine?? (I have the same problem over my wireless LAN?)

Do you have the same patched version of the game on each one?

Also, do you have any other firewall software installed on your PC?

 

Same version, but not patched. I've downloaded an update (030700_xx) from the website, but it doesn't seem to make any difference. No other firewall software installed.

 

Has it ever worked for you before???

 

No, before I had Win98 on one machine so I didn't expect it to work, but now with XP on both I was hoping for better luck. I'm sure it must work if one get your network protocols right but how? Or this game just too old for XP?

I can read&write files over this connection, so pinging will obviously work and I can't see why any spyware would block the game communication but not file sharing??

 

DF2 LAN play requires IPX protocol to be installed.. do you have this?

 

Enabled the NWLink... IPX protocol - this helped a bit: I can now play over my wireless LAN at work (after hours of course ;-) ), but connecting two laptops at home NIC to NIC with crossover cable still no joy :-(

I took the WLAN access point home and connected one laptop with xover cable to it (other laptop has wireless card). Connected fine, ping OK etc. but hosted DF2 mission still not picked up by other machine??

Can Microsoft.NET Framework 1.1 have any effect?
