    HI,

I have recently bought a new garphics card and processor. I got the GeForce 6800LE and what should be a Athlon XP2500 Barton (1.83ghz), however it is only registering as a 1900 and running at 1.4ghz

Now i think that this chip has 512 L2 cache 333FSB.

I have set the FSB in the BIOS on the motherboard to 133 which is what it used to be with my old 1800. Do i need to increase this more so that the real processor speed is recognised? i can only take it up to 280 in the BIOS.

    thanks

In your bios of your motherboard tell it to Load Optimized Defaults

    That should fix your issue.

It may not. Many motherboards default at a lower speed for the CPU. In this case, either the BIOS, or jumpers on the motherboard are putting you on a slower FSB speed of 133mhz, or 266mhz DDR. This drops the speed to 1.4-ish ghz.

Up your FSB speed to 166, or 333mhz DDR, and all will be well.

not sure about athlons but i think your board supports 266 max so your cpu runs at 266 bus or maybe your board supports 333 but cpu is 400

No, the CPU is 333. How can you tell what the motherboard supports when the poster never told us?

because 166x11=1.83 and 133x11=1.46ghz so it would make sence for it to run at 1.4ghz if its bus was at 133 instead of 166

    What???
david1, I'm just woundering how do you know what his MOBO supports cause that info wasnt posted!
FYI "david1" AMD XP 2500+ Barton cpu has 333fsb, I know cause I own two of em!

Hey Bentura, if Adrynalyne advice dont solve your problem, tell us what brand & model MOBO ya got

i just explained it the cpu he has a multiplier if 11 so 166 is its bus so 11x166 is 1.83
he said his cpu is running at 1.4ghz and if his board didnt support 166 then it would be at 133x11 then thats 1.46ghz so my therory is supported by his 1.4ghz info
