printer bug

hey folks ..

jus sorting out a friends PC and spoted a little bug .. the printer, on startup and also randomly when the PC is on .. prints a page with a little smiley face on ..

any ideas ?

Does your friend have antivirus and spyware software installed on their computer?

 

yesum .. i put them on

the machine is clean but for this bug .. is there anywhere in XP that one might be able to see a list of actions taken , like where the printer is getting the cmd to print ?

Sorry to take so long in replying, but at present have a bad knee ( work accident ) and it is difficult getting from one room to another.

Reason that I asked about antivirus and spyware apps is that is a classic symptom of the W32.Myparty or Backdoor.Myparty virus.

To check the list of running services, go to Run, type MS config, and enter, another alternative is CNTRL, ALT, DEL which will bring up the Task Manager.

If Msstask exe. is running then that is your problem. Please don't confuse this with Mstask exe. which is a necessary function. Hope this helps!
