Command & Conquer: Renegade

I installed Command & Conquer: Renegade today and it installs good and all but when i go to play it, it goes black then crashs to the desktop, or just locks up.

I have windows XP
512mb ram
1.40 ghz
AMD Athlon™ XP 1600+
Nvidia Geforce2 MX/MX 400 with 78.01 drivers

is there anything i can do to make it work???
