Default cpbrkpie.ocx

After performing an ewido security suite, I cleaned a file called cpbrkpie and obtained the following scan results:

+ Scan result:

C:\WINDOWS\cpbrkpie.ocx -> Spyware.Coupons : Cleaned with backup

My understanding is that C:\WINDOWS\cpbrkpie.ocx was infected with spyware coupons (Adware.CouponAge). Someone on the Internet posted "CPBRKPIE.OCX is an adware file and can be removed."

I searched the Internet to find more detail on cpbrkpie.ocx, but did not find any.

What is cpbrkpie.ocx and was it safe for me to ewido "Cleaned with backup" (whatever that means).

My computer is very slow in booting up. Do cpbrkpie.ocx and my computer being slow botting up have anything to do with one another?

Mcafeee seems to have a very complete page on this bugger, a bit complicated (as any complete removal can be) but should fix you up:

The link you provided states, "A Browser Helper Object (BHO) is installed in Internet Explorer that provides a new toolbar."

I think I know where cpbrkpie.ocx came from.

I have had Google tool bar installed for a while. About a month ago, the Google toolbar displayed a new pull down menu. I think it had to do with coupons, but I'm not sure. Anyway, after deleting cpbrkpie.ocx, that new Google toolbar pull down menu is gone.

Is there anyway for you to check to see whether Google toolbar is responsible for cpbrkpie.ocx?

I just ran a search on my harddrive for cpbrkpie.ocx.

In C:\\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files is a program file called "cpbrkpie Control." It says that the program is damaged and it's version is 3,3,0,2

From it's properties, it says it's an ActiveX control and it's CodeBase is:

http://a19.g.akamai.net/7/19/7125/40...2/cpbrkpie.cab

Here's a link to my google search for a19.g.akamai.net

http://www.google.com/search?num=100....akamai.net%22

Thanks.

Google is not responsible for that. As you indicated, the control in Downloaded Program Files comes from:

http://a19.g.akamai.net/7/19/7125/40...3/cpbrkpie.cab

This will appear in a HijackThis log as an O16 entry. You can just have HJT fix that line.
