I am incompetent
I don't know where to put a thread of confusion and plea for help.
I can't believe I'm asking this :o

A nasty stalling computer.. Keeps stalling... Has to be shut down, but can't. Won't switch off. Have to hold down the power button until it does something.
When it's rebooted often the icons are highlighted, but they dont respond when you click on them.

It can take up to 4 attempts to get it switched on and working properly.

Spybot has been used. Adaware blocks up when you try to use it... Stalls completely. Any advice?

Ok sounds like you need to get organised!

You need to get yourself into the malware forum, read the FAQ, if you're still having trouble post in the software forum with all the relevant info OR in the malware removal forum if you're certain it's malware.

One quick thing to check before serious testing: Make sure your C drive is not full. If Windows doesn't have enough room to run the swap file, it can stall out cold. Otherwise follow Goldy's advise. (Not Sasquatch's :: )

Yeah, to make sure the job gets done right, a 5 lb. sledge works much better than a framing hammer!
