So my hard drive stopped working yesterday and my computer isn't recognizing it anymore. I have a bunch of things that I need to transfer on that hard drive to the other including my internet connection, sound software, and other things that I no longer have cds for.

Can I transfer my files from my dead hard drive or do I have to start over?
Or do you guys have any ideas on how to fix the hard drive.

They are two thing you could do first is find a compagny that recover data from dead harddisk but this cost an arm and a leg.....

Or buy a new one and start over....

But when the computer start if you put your hand on your harddisk can you feel a vibrations like the thing is turning or nothing at all.....

Theres no sound at all. I mighrt wanna start over but if I don't have the disc's for some of the hardware devices, how can I install them?

Does everything else on the computer work, ie: power light, got video, CDROM Drawer opens and closes, etc? If so you could try unhooking your HD ribbon and connect it to a different power connector and see if it will spin or not. If it doesn't, that's bad. If it doe's spin then you can perhaps recover your data. If everything is dead then the HD is not the likley problem.

You are going to have to get the drivers off the internet individually. If you don't have your NIC/modem drivers, then you will have to use the internet connection of another comp and burn the driver installers onto a CD.

I know you said that you don't feel the drive. Do as indicated in post 4.
Also, if you can, slave it to another comp and see if you can access it.
If you can, then you can pull the data off.

I've tried connecting it differently, running it off slave and everything else, but nothings working.

2 does every thing else work fine ( fans spin other drivs spin up )

Haa,yes the freezer thing i was about to suggest that method i have try-it one time and it work the only thing about this is that you have a limited amount off times to transfer data arounds 30 minutes.....

But after that the harddisk is finish (Game Over).

splitt3r You are now the victim of a drive by title change

leave it in the freezer for at least 4 hours, best to leave it overnight.

I put it in the freezer and it worked. Right now all my files are on my friends and my mp3 players, so I'm gonna transfer it today.
