Just rec'd new 19" LCD monitor with built-in speakers. My Comp (4600 Dell) has only an integrated sound card. When I plug the speakers in, only very low sound. All volume controls are maxed. Do I need a PCI sound card for the comp? My current speakers evidently have a builtin amp with vol and tone control and are very loud. Thanks.

No, you need a amplifier that will drive the speakers on the monitor. Most likely your other speakers where powered speakers (AC to DC adapter plugged into power outlet).

Thanks brownizs, I was afraid so. Does the pci sound cards have a builtin amp? If not, what do you suggest. Also why doesn't the specs, or something, note that. Thanks again
