Well Campus security came in and did a outlet test and by doing so unplugged my computer WHILE it was on....... .. ..... .... Well now i attempt to load into windows and get stuck shortly after the loading screen, it just goes black. tried safe mode w/o networking or command prompt, doesnt work either. . . . . . . Inserted the XP resintall CD to attempt to get to the command line to run a chkdsk/r. It stoped at Setup is loading Windows. So naturally i am just a LITTLE angry. I am currently running off of Knoppix 3.9 but there are no hard drive utilties i can use to verfiy the drive. Simple question short.. how do I fix this.. I am getting another hard drive in a day or 2 so i might have to try using that as my primary. But in the mean time anyone have suggestions. If u just want to express ur anger at campus security thats fine too :)

Try Last Known Good Configuration, or if that fails, a Repair.

Have you tried Slax?. Just burn it to a CD and install it to your HD. Then you can burn all the files you need off your HD to a disk. Then you won't lose your data.:)

Selecting last known good configuration also locks up the computer.. And what do u mean by repair? if you mena boot from CD that doesn't work either.

First off, that sucks what they did, and I feel for you. Second, I just went through a similar problem (though it was with a new, unformatted hard drive) and it turned out to be the video card. Do you have onboard video? If so, try removing any video card in the AGP slot and using the onboard video to see if you'll get past the 'loading windows' screen when booting from the disk.

'Repair' means going to the Repair Console. When you boot to the disk, you're given the choice to setup Windows or Repair. DON'T USE any ERD that you might have, they're all but useless. If you go to the console, however, you have the options of fixing the disk. It takes you to a command prompt and if you type help there, you'll see a list of commands you can use.

It's possible (though unlikely) that yanking the plug messed up the MBR, from the Repair Console you can fix this.

    Good luck!

It sounds like you have failing hardware.

Only have the minimum hardware hooked up, check the Bios settings, then do a format and fresh install.

If i have failing hardware how do i go about finding it? just unplugging things and replugging them in? I also disconnected my SATA drive and connected a IDE drive to try and install windows on that. While the windows setup got me to the point where if i was sure i wanted to install windows (further then it did on the SATA drive) the keyboard stoped responding so i wasnt able to progress further.. I am going to be pretty pissed if it is my motherboard since i just recieved it about 2-3 weeks ago.
