Just purchased a new Dell which doesn't come with an onboard parallel port.
I've tried several pci-parallel cards to no avial, as they are not configurable with win xp. I need a standard LPT 1 port 378
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Suggestion 1: Don't buy Dell ;)

Suggestion 2: Check the Hardware Compatibility Lists for a PCI card that is supported by the OS.

I would really recommend not using unsupported hardware, even if it does seem to function. At the company I administer, their DC was using a RAID controller not supported by the OS. It would work, however, upon rebooting the machine, we found that it wouldn't boot. Severe P.I.T.A. if you know what I mean.
