No Sound

Hi

Not sure if this is a hardware or software issue so please feel free to move it

I have just moved an IM845GL motherboard from an emachines case for a friend and done a fresh install of XP home. Everything looks to be ok but there is no sound. I have tested everything I can think of, downloaded latest drivers etc but am now stumped.

Has anybody got any suggestions?

 

Do you have onboard sound or are you using a sound card?

 

What does the Device Manager say? Does it say it is working properly or perhaps there is a hardware conflict?

 

Onboard sound - no problems showing in device manager.

 

Did the computer come with a drivers disc for the motherboard (VIA chipset drivers)?
Have you checked the sound control panel to make sure it's not muted?
Is onboard sound enabled in BIOS?

 

does the headphone jack work? on my computer, i have to change it to "digital output only" for it to play out of my speakers. i also, have to change mine to "4 speakers" so the headphone jack will work as well. anyway, g/l - sos

 

Via Chipset drivers loaded
Sound not muted
Enabled in Bios

No front headphone/mic jacks.

tried 4 speaker setup still nothing.

 

Have you tried updating the onboard drivers?
Is it Ac 97 sound? If it is, maybe download the Realtek Ac 97 drivers.
I guess you have the speaker jack plugged into the speaker out socket, and not the line out socket.

 

Latest drivers installed and yes jack is in correct socket

 

Maybe try the driver set from this site:

Requires a free registration, but emachines drivers seem hard to come by.

Those drivers have made no difference.

 

Do you have a mute button on the keyboard??
