Anybody know how to overclock an HP Pavilion?

I've got an old Pavilion 8550c w/ a 500MHZ Celeron. I know its a piece of junk and I plan on replacing it somewhat later this year, but till then is there a way to speed things up a bit?

I've got 192mbs of ram, ATI Stealth Radeon 7000 video card [which i bought thinking it would help], a 20gb harddrive, etc.. I just need things to go a bit faster, and hold me off till I buy a real bad ass system later this year..

Anybody have any idea for a quick way to boost speed?

 

What OS you running? If you can deal without games, then run Linux (flavor of your choice) on there. It'll be speedy enough.

 

also, sorry about not saying it earlier, but with OEM-type computers, (HP, Compaq, Gateway, Dell, etc.) your overclocking options are basically nill. About the ONLY overclocking option available is a pin-mod on certain CPU's (usually in laptops).

 

Well as Tollhouse said your options are limited... Clockgen, CPUFSB, and softFSB come to mind though try googling them...it is way to late to go digging up links....

 

ive got a sony vaio and my only OC option is CPUFSB. check it out @ www.podien.de the list of supported chipsets/mobos is pretty large...
