    Okay, so my main drive is SATA, on my IDE chain 1 I have a single 250gb HD and on chain 2 I have a DVD-RW and DVD-ROM.

    The computer boots fine, but the 250gb HD is not showing up. Under Disk Management it lists it as Foreign. If I right click on it, I can "Import Foreign Disk" or "Convert to Basic DisK." Will I loose anything if I import foreign disk? This is my media drive and had about 200gb of media on it I can't lose!

    What operating system are you using? Also, a little more detail on how you've configured your hard drives, as in how are they connected? I'm not sure what you mean when you say you put your PATA on channel 2 and your SATA on channel 1? To clarify, SATA should be channel 3 or more, while PATA is channel 1 and 2, at least that's the case with "normal" motherboards.

    Okay I'm running windows XP. I'm not sure what you mean when you say channels. My motherboard has 2 IDE 'chains' - meaning I can hook up 2 IDE devices to each chain giving me a total of 4 IDE devices. It also has 6 Serial ATA ports.

    so:
    SATA1 = primary HDD
    IDE 'chain' 1 = Secondary 250 gb HD (set as master)
    IDE 'chain' 2 = DVD-RW(master) and DVD-ROM(slave)
