You can via Disk Management. Right Click on the partition and select "Change Driver Letter and Paths..." You can change it to any letter between A and Z which are not already in use.

Tried that it, says windows cannot modify the drive letter of your system volume or boot volume.

How did it end up with "I"? You should still be able to load programs by browsing or doing a custom install. I install all my programs on my "D" drive and reserve "C" for the OS.

Well I was doing that untill I have to install a divix converter for my MCE PC, and it will not give me the option to change the install path. :(

Windows will not let you change it. There are reghacks, but they will usually leave you in unbootable state.

I got into this predicament once. Only way forward was a complete reinstall of everything. Just backup your important data. :)

Ok so silly question but do you have a partition marked C: ? It dosn't sound like it, you could just make a small partition on the drive with disk manager, call it c: and call it a day.

Let me quess. You reinstalled the OS and it took the letter "I".
If that is true, MS has a fix so you can create a "virtual" drive C. It requires a batch file in startup or something in cmd (its been a long time since I had this problem.

Also, If the OS is installed on a letter other than C you will also find that in windows (My computer, etc) that there will be no icons in folder view on the left. There will be a tree stucture, but no icons.

Let us know. I have the instructions somewhere. Can't find them right now.
