Amd overclocking

right would it be a gd idea to overclock a AMD sempron 2600+ (socket A) and if i could but would i get it up to in Mhz it runs at 1.82 Mhz at the moment

 

More information is needed please! Idle Temp? Load Temp?

More importantly, do you know what current FSB you are running at or what your CPU multiplyer is?

easy way to find out. download cpu-z. Run the program, and it will tell you everything you need to know.

So then.... my Multiplier is: x 11.0 and my FSB 166.6/7 Mhz. When idle the temp is about 42°C, I think that when loaded about 55°C/60°C.

 

Hmm, your temps are a tiny bit on the high side, If you were to overclock it might be best to invest in a new HSF (Heatsink + Fan) for your CPU just to be on the safe side You still want to go ahead with it on your stock fan?

Safest temp really should be no higher that about 50 on full load. However, it's normally overvolting that makes the tempsrise throught the roof!

 

Well I can't test what the max load temp would be at the moment because my graphics card stopped working so i am using onboard graphics, so it cant play any games that would push it. That temp was only a estimate it could be lower!

 

Well, you could try and see if your BIOS will allow you to up your FSB a bit, the chances are though are that your cpu won't be able to handle the extra clock speed on stock voltages

 

Yeah maybe i should wait and see, I'll order a new graphics card, see what the temp a full load is and maybe get back to you!

Again... more downloads... but.... it'll give you a bevy of information, especially temperature information (you'd be surprised to see how many components in your computer have Temp Sensors!)

 

Yes i download Speedfan and I didn't relise that my Hard Drives had sensors in them! Thanks, I have updated my pc since then i now have a AMD athlon 64 3700+
