Default Linksys wireless router question

Hi,
I just bought a Linksys wireless router (WRT54G v5). I am trying to set it up, but everytime I go through the setup, or through the help on their web page it asks me for a password. I put in the default "admin" and it keeps asking me for a password. I tried going through the IP address, and the password doesn't work. I talked to the company, they told me to reset the router, which I did. I tried it again, and the password still doesn't work. It just keeps prompting me for it. Does anyone hve any idea what to do? The is the first time I have tried to set up a wireless router, so I am not sure if there is a setting that is wrong on my computer or anything (I have a Dell Inspiron 6000, Windows XP, SP2). I'd appreciate any help. Thanks!

Do a hardware reset on the router by pressing the button in and holding it for 30 seconds. do this twice in a row. also look underneath the router it may have the password on the bottom with the username if it says to leave it blank or admin and it dont work. you will need to contact linksys.

Usually after a Hard reset, ... the user name is ADMIN and leave the password blank and hit <enter>

Thanks for the help everyone, but unfortunatley it is still not working. The only thing that seems to give something other than a prompt for the password is when I enter the following address: http://192.168.1.1
it asks for username and password. When I leave the username blank, but put in admin as the password I get a 401 Unauthorized message. Any ideas?
Again, thank you for all the help so far.

Here's a link to a support answer at Linksys -

http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/...i=&p_topview=1

Essentially reset the router and unplug power cord also.
If that does not work, I believe Linksys needs to replace your router.
Hope that helps.

Ok i thought u were using the right add to start with. to get to the config page on the linksys router it is http://192.168.1.1 for every linksys router. as for their login it is almost always "Username : admin, Password : leave blank"

this is what i use for my linksys router and generally these companies stick with the one basic setting for all.

Try this and see if it helps if not try the linksys website or call them, could be that the webpage hasnot be configured right on the routers internal memory.

Have you tried using another IP address? My Linksys router didn't work with the default IP address. This one worked: 192.168.2.1.

Hope this helps.

Linksys will tell you to go to my network, click on your local connection, go to properties, chose tcp/ip (internet protocol) and select static address:
IP address 192.168.1.5 / subnet mask = 255.255.255.0 and default gateway is 192.168.1.1 click ok all the way out.
Then go to http://192.168.1.1 ...should get log in screen ....leave user blank, password is admin
Try that.
