Data recovery question

I did a search and everything I found was for people who have reformatted.

I had some files deleated yesterday. They were zip files that were put int the recycle bin and then the bin emptied. How can I get them back? I just got this computer from a friend and the Norton isnt up to date on it. So I cant use that recovery feature. All of the downloads I have found will not actually restore until I pay for the service. Is there any free downloads to get this done?
