hi. I have a similar prob like TechieGirl, and was also wondering if there is anything out there that can test a motherboard.
main prob - after a cross country move into a home with terrible electric surges being a constant (not any more thank goodness! - fixed by my jack of all trades honey), within days of plugging system in, floppy drive port was fried. now 2nd IDE port is dead.
I have an Intel Seattle2 mobo. Win 98 OS Pentium II/450mhz.
Is there anyway to test the mobo or the ports from within OS?

you'd best get a new board and a new main power supply.

on e-bay, some motherboard combo's [board/cpu] are real cheap.

i bought this board in this computer 1100 megahertz, 256 ram, for 35.00.

    really werks great now.

power supplys can be had for 6.95 on ebay.
