as the title says im building a new system, i have been checking around and chosen a few parts of what i think are a good system for the amount im looking to spend.

I would be greatly thankfull if someone would cast their knowlegdable eyes over the components and give me thier opinion on my choices and any incompatiblities there may be, im spending a fair amount of cash on this and its my first major system rebuild for a while so i'd like a bit of comfirmation :) also any upgrades/changes for not much cash diffence please let me know :D

this system is mainly aimed at gaming

Currently ASUS have the king sli pci-e mobo

You need two sticks of memory to make use of dual channel, preferably in a matched pair, this is what I have and its awsome,it aslo runs at cl 2 faster than the cl 3 of the crucial you posted ,you will still have the option to uprade to 2gb at a later date

I dont notice a power supply in there argueably the most crucial component, all these are good and will suite your system

I cant recommend Scan enough they are an awsome store, usually the cheapest prices around, customer support thats second to non and a no quibble returns policy if you dont like the look of what you have bought you can return it no questions asked, they are also currently doing 0% finance if the lump sum is too hard on the purse strings:),check the today only everyday for deals on the parts you want, when two or three of your parts are on the today only page buy your computer you'll save about £20-30 :D

    I dont think so "LOL"
Thats probably more of an Opinion than fact!

Take a look at the DFI NF4 SLI, it at the very least, is equal in SLI configuration and if you OC then DFI is Superior.
Even the DFI in my sig & with a simple mod (joining two soider points) is identical to the DFI NF4 SLI & also superior to the ASUS

Both Asus & DFI are a better choice.
If OCing, DFI is the #1 choice
A better choice for memory would be a Dual channel kit, Skip Value ram.
If you think you might OC then go for PC4000/DDR 500 memory, even if you dont OC still a good choice.
CL2 / CL3 & or memory timmings are of little concern with a 64 bit system, might benchmark higher but thats it, real world youll see no dif.

I'll have to be more carefull with my wording:) ,yes it is my opinion and just about every other motherboard roundup that the asus premium is the best all round 939 mobo ATM 'not just sli bechmark performance',the DFI if your into overclocking,if overclocking was stipulated in this build I would have recommended the DFI-but it wasnt :p

You also aint gonna find any dual channel pc4000 kits for £70,the kit I posted was a dual channel kit and within budget 'actually it was £12 over budget' :p

  5. ASUS

    "LOL"
Yep, Opinions are like butt holes everyone got one.
    Hello Ricky;)

    Translate that to US dollars.
Is that squiggly thing before the 70 even on my keyboard?

    ASUS/DFI whatever:p I could be happy with either & I am:D

Totally agree both Asus and DFI are better choices than abit ATM,£70 around $130,most of the pc4000 I'v seen are 2 1gb sticks which will further add to the price, ballistix are £100 for 1gig pc4000 dual channel kit, they'll all be around that price, twice what void originally wanted to pay for memory, also everything more expensive here because were suckers :D

    Bonjour ASUS :)

Awesome! Thanks for the reply guys

I did indeed overlook the power supply thanks for reminding me about that ;)

Ill take the advice and take a good look at the ASUS and DFI boards, prolly the ASUS as scan don’t sell the DFI and I wont be over clocking (not clued up on that;) ) also ill get a duel ram kit, I overlooked that too!

about the HDD, is serial the best way to go? Im still running on the ol' IDE drives and haven’t looked into anything else for ages. Again I don’t want to go overboard on the budget.

Once again thanks a bunch for your excellent info guys :)
