Can files be shared across different workgroups on the same segment. i.e. segment = 192.168.0.1, one WG = A, another is B. Can you share a folder/file on a PC in WG A with the PC's in WG B? Thanks

The answer is yes I have discovered. So what would be the point in having more than one workgroup name?

Workgroups are just names which would represent which area a computer is in. Back in the day you'd find accounting computers on an accounting workgroup and member services computers on a member services work group.

It's just a way of sorting. Although typically speaking, workgroups arn't used much anymore, since in the work environment you'd use domains. Homes and really small offices still use workgroups, but typically speaking people only setup one. So now you end up seeing a lot of "MSHOME" and "workgroup" workgroups.

If you want the diffrent workgroups to not be able to see each other you can always put them on a diffrent subnet and then they can't see each other.
