radeon x800xl pci-e problem

it says the graphics accelerator has been reset because it isnt responding to the device
alright my friend has a radeon x800xl pci- express graphics card, lately its been acting up, and today he got some sort of message, he tried to remember the best he could, it said something along the lines of "the graphics accelerator has been reset because it isnt responding to the device. He was playing age of empires III he has a gig of ram, pretty good setup, windows xp pretty sure it's MCE... what could be wrong?
