What do i do?? G card issues

Hi im new to the forums, hoping to seek help,

First off im a Css naab, Counter strike source is the only game for me, I have been playing it with a mx 440 nvidia geforce 64 mb for 1 year, with 30 fps "frames per second", i became addicted and played the game in my mates with 200 + fps, yes thats rite , u heard 200 fps, THE GAME IS SOOOO EASY, it was unreal, so i decided, i need to upgrade,

My computer is not the greatest, specs Below :

Professional
Version 2002
Service pack 2

Pentium(R) 4 CPU 1.9 GHz
1.89 GHz, 768 MB of RAM

Ok thats my specs

Now my computer has absolutely nothing on it, i have used 16 Gb of space and have over 60 GB left, "C drive"

My computer has all the latest Drivers as does my G card, I have no firewall issues or anything obvious like that,

Now, you are wandering he hasnt actually sayed what the problem is yet??

The problem is 7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FPS on counter strike source, yes 7, Now, i have nothing running whilst playing css, nothin and i mean nothing, video stress test gave out 7 frames per second, BF2 "battlefield 2 starts up but then restarts my computer automatically, i have it near one year and yet to play it, now in saying that, Unreal tournament 2004 etc can run perfectly, counter strike source can run for 15 minutes with 30-40 fps but then my CPU goes to 100 percent and gives me 7 fps, then i close steam/css and it continues to run at 100 percent CPU usuage, giving me a laggy spikey, slow, frustrating peice of ***** a** machine, im sorri, i get angry,

What is going on, i used to run fine with my old 64 mb card, is it my card, do i need more ram?, my computer has been seen to by "experts" nothin wrong with it,

please dont say obvious, like "hey dude turn ur settings to low" that works, YES< im sure it will then give me 10 fps, Magic,

V sycn off, graphics low etc etc etc, still give me 7fps, after 10 minutes of gameplay, Card over heating??? nope its not, its the 3rd card ive tried, do i just need more ram, im thick, im noob,

Hi BD^^, well this does sound like a very odd problem. Have you made sure you have installed the latest graphics card drivers from Nvidia?

But yes mate, all new drivers installed and all the old ones disabled or removed,

DiD i mention i can play Quake 4 very very smoothly, but when i try to play Css, my CPU goes very high which leads to LOW Frames per second

ive reinstalled css numerous times :S

It cant be a graphical issue can it?..after all quake 4 runs perfect on high?? and on css the graphix are amazing but still poor fps :S

im lost

 

Hmm, is it only Css that runs at low fps?If so it's possible that your limiting factor wasn't your graphics card but your processor If not it could jsut be that css doesn't like that gfx card, but it's unlikely thats the problem

Well...It is a weird issue indeed umm. The system sounds like it's had it's course the processor sounds like it wearing pretty bad and probably close to failing. How old is this rig anyway?

And boy its being used alot, However what baffles me is that quake 4 runs fine, is Hl2 "counter strike source " a harder game to run??

If i upgrade to a 3.2 Gh from 1.9 do u think this would help??

 

Depends on whether the mobo is having issues as well, and if it's picky about certain processors', Is this a store bought rig or personally built? and if store bought what is it and what socket is the mobo?

I would actually try downloading 3D Mark 05 and see how that goes, It will do a Video Card test and a Processor test. If either or is failing you'll know by the benchmark.

Basically a benchmark is a set of tests to measure performance on a scale of marks dependant (In 3D marks case) on how high the FPS is.

Umm actually I have heard about a few problems people were having on here that CS:S was getting bad FPS ona decent rig so I don't know. Make sure you check the Avg FPS for the processor when the results conclude.

I'm gonna search on that and see.

 

Also have you checked for viruses and malware and such.

What are you using as an AV and Firewall?

 

Ive reformatted my PC mate, hence why i should have nothin holding my computer back

i only have 20 processes runnin, and 2% cpu usage,

All viruses wiped etc

At the minute im usuing No anti virus or firewall,

The only firewall on is the windows One,

I just tried playing Half life 2, it gives 20 fps aswell, so its a Hl2/steam/css/valve problem LoL

keep in mind Quake 4, COD 2 etc runs fine,

Ps..just dloading that Bench thing Now,

That is a huge problem you need a firewall and AV ASAP I recommend Avast! AV
and Kerio.

If you wanna go light AVG and Kerio.

I hope you're fresh start of windows is updated properly cause if viruses weren't a problem before they will be very soon.

EDIT: Reason I say this is because I've seen and even whitnessed some nasty network bugs that were drifting infect a freshly reformatted PC connected to the net no longer than 5 minutes it had no AV or firewall.

On another note...If it is just a Valve thing we'll know by the benchmark, Which is the main reason I suggest it because of hearing of similar problems from CS:S that game very very picky.

 

90% done, ill try that out now, wen it finished, i think i dloaded it from America, Hence why it took so long,

Just an Anti virus or AV and a new firewall aswell as the windows one,

Once you have a software firewall, Windows firewall needs to be disabled. You can't have 2 software AV's and or firewalls running on 1 PC.

I also suggest Microsoft windows Defender. For spyware.

EDIT: No, I use AIM.

 

OK this 3d thing is really complicated for me,

I ran it and i was getting 0-1 fps, it done about 3 tests, or 3 different things, and then told me nothing, then it ran it in lower graphix, it done the same, 0-1 fps

i dont see how this is going to tell me if VALVE hl2 or wotever is giong to play up

ps..i can only run 3d now, i cant do nothin else as its a dloaded version :S

 

All you need to do is once it installs run it, You can't chnage any settings on the main program just run test until it completes. once it's done it will display the results. I need to know the benchmark score, Avg FPS On the Videocard and Processor.


EDIT: This will help me diagnose whether or not it's a hardware issue or Valve is just being dumb.

Make sure you have nothing else running in the background while it's doing that test.

Eeh, Well it's not bad for you're system um but it's not good either, I guess maybe it's probably half you're system and half Valve.

Like I siad Valve and CS:S are picky. Did this FPS drop when you upgraded Video Cards?

And did you happen to get the AVG Fps? fromt he result box that hides behidn the Benchmark score?

i had about 30-40 fps with my old nvidia mx440 64mb!!!, "now that is a poor card"

and wih this card the grphix are very nice but i get 40 the highest but an AVG of 20 on css,

But..Quake 4 runs fine, :S

To be honest the 5500 is a POS. That's not just my opinion. I don't think CS:S likes those cheap cards.

Might have to stick with the MX440 to play CS:S man.


Personally I don't think you'll get much of a boost from just the processor to be perfectly honest, A new mobo, With maybe an AGP, or PCI-E Slot. for a better card and then a processor. same ram should be ok.

You can probably get all this for maybe 120 +

This video card is not recommended but it's cheap and will work until can fork over a little more for a better one. Plus I'm not sure what you're take is on ATI or NIVIDA.

i cant afford it mate

i have no job, and my mx440 is gone, but its a worse card than this one, so werid stuff,

ill find a new hobby i guess, 20 fps is just not playable

Hmm, Sorry couldn't be more of a help, maybe some others might have an idea but, I do believe CS:S is picky about video cards.
