I'm thinking about picking up Half-Life 2 used off Amazon, but I'm concerned about a used game and Steam. If I try and install a HL2 that someone else has (theoretically) already installed and set up a Steam account, will I run into problems? From what it sounds like, each game connects to and creates a user account for Steam based on each game. If that's the case, I'm guessing that when I try and install HL2 and create a Steam account for myself, it won't let me with a used version. So basically, if I were to pick up HL2, do I need to buy it brand new?

its very unlikely that the person didnt use the cd key so if i were you, i wouldnt buy it. even if they say the key is unused. just buy it new, its not that much anymore. i think you can buy it off steam for like 20 bucks or sumthin?

Shop around, you can find it new for under $30. Not a game I would buy used due to Steam.

Thanks, that's what I needed to know– I figured the whole Steam aspect made used copies slightly more worthless than regular games.

You would probably have to also get a hold of the sellers personal steam account.
Once logged onto Steam you would then change the account details. |
