X800 vs X1600?

Hi,

am looking to build a new mid-range system, playing mainly recent MMOs/RPGs. I have been looking at graphics cards and for the price I want to pay I've seen that two cards, both made by Sapphire, are about the same price - the X1600XT 256mb and X800GTO 256mb (with a 512mb just a little more). I would hope to keep the card going for a couple of years but have no interest in overclocking and won't cry if I can't play everything on max spec! Any advice on which to go for, or any other suggestions in the same price range (just over £100 UK). There are so many to choose from!

Well if you're not interested in overclocking then the X1600XT for sure...If you were going to OC the X800GTO is a very good overclocker.

 

GTO is better, 256-bit interface rather than the 128-bit of the x1600. if you get the GTO2 you can unlock it to an x850 (see link to post)

Hmm, I was under the impression they were both 256Mb cards?

If there is something preferable in the same price range, I'd like to know about it too. I guess my choice is near top of the range old technology or near bottom of the range new technology - if I get the top range old technology, I'm just worried it won't last too long before its outdated but as I dont tend to play the brand new whiz-bang games I'm not even sure it matters.

they both are 256 mb memory... but one is based on 256 BIT interface and one 128 BIT.

i would go for the gto.... you can mod it to a better card! its worth it!
