ugh just ugh with a side of ugh!

So I install a new Radeon 9800Pro 256, simple enough. Go to boot her up, and I get a lovely message saying my Seconday 0 and 1 drives cannot be found. So I open her up, check the connections (maybe I hit something by mistake), everythings cool, go to boot up, same message. Ok fine, be that way.

This is what I have done so far. Did a hardware change check, did a registry change check for errors using Registry mechanic and fixed any (didnt pertain or help problem) and checked device manager in which neither of my dvdroms are to be found. I even threw my old Nvidia card back in just to make sure it wasnt that.

So now im at a loss. Any ideas?

Edit: Both drives are set to cable select.

Go here & see if the rom(s) are still assigned a drive letter>

    Control panel/ Admin Tolols/ Computer Management/ Storage/ Disc Management.

Find you rom on the right & see if it has a drive letter.

If not, right click on it & reassign a letter.

Only drives that show up are my C and my virtual F.

If it is not showing up in there then you have a problem. XP is not picking it up.

Might have power but is the ide cable seated correctly? Both ends.

    Something to try>

    Replace the existing driver
    1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    2. If Control Panel is in Category view, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.

If Control Panel is in Classic view, double-click System.
    3. On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.
    4. Click the drive with the question mark next to it.
    5. On the Action menu, click Uninstall. When you are prompted to confirm the removal, click OK.
    6. Repeat steps 4 through 5 for any other drives with question marks.
    7. On the Action menu, click Scan for hardware changes.

    From Microsoft

No drives show up under Roms.

I have a feeling its bios related.

Update for those who have a simliar problem.

I fixed it however, I dont know how, and I dont know why.

What I did was went into setup, turned both of my secondary drives off (instead of auto), saved and booted up windows. Checked to see if they were in device manager, they were not. I then restarted & went into setup again. Changed it back to auto, and booted up. No errors and the drives are back.

I dont know why this happened but its something to try if your having a similar problem.

Thanks Hipster Doofus for your time.
