hello, I am trying to figure out how i can log in to the internet through the school network. I use the wireless connection most of the time, but sometimes I cant get connected wirelessly, so i want to learn how to connect through the ethernet cable. There are plenty of places to plug in and ive seen a few people do it before. Try as i can i cannot get it to work. Ive tested the cable at home and it works, but it wont in school.

I am using zonealarm firewall and tried disabling it to see if it was the problem, but no luck.

what do you guys suggest i do to try and get a connection.

Never will happen, due to administrators at your school has locked down the network for a reason, especially for "Unknown" devices.

You need to talk to whoever is in charge of your network/computers at your school then they should tell you whether or not your allowed to even hook up to the network.

I work in a public school (not as a school employee), and have been told I was welcome to plug in; I needed only to get a password from the school network administrator, to log onto the school system server.

I have not tried it, because I don't need the net while working (just AC power), so I don't know if they're right or wrong...

I've seen many people plug their ethernet cables to get internet access before. For the wireless signal on campus i have a acount name and password to log on to thew internet, so im guessing i need to find a way to access this screen through the ethernet cable.

for clarification, I was refering to the my college campus, not K-12, if it makes a difference.

I guess i will ask someone at the computer lab if i cant get any answers.

First step, you call the school IT department and you ask for the logon parameters (how to configure the IP, your personal ID, and your password).

Then, you take a CAT5e wire and you plug it to your computer's wire network card.

You plug the other side to the School system and you logon according to the parameters.

    Voila the miracle works.;)
