ok fellas I've tried and tried to get this burner to work...... and i'm new by the way....... I burnt one DVD and have not been able to burn another one......I have used 1click DVD copy and nero with DVD shrink and the same problem always happens, it fails to burn the DVD..... I have tried to burn both DVD and torrents and this problem happens all the time........ its an Aopen DVD DL R/RW and i'm about 30 seconds from just selling it. Can anyone please help, this is the error message it brings up everytime i try to burn:

Have you tried burning with other programs except Nero?,Nero 7 has a few bugs.

Is the Burner on its own IDE cable or sharing with another device? ( pop it on its own as Master )

also what type of IDE ribbon cable are you using is it a 40 or 80 ribbon, if a 40 get a good 80 wire ribbon cable and not one of those round type, if you have a spare 80 ribbon IDE cable try it.

your Nero needs updating too as the latest version of Nero 7 is 7.2.0.3b http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2228

its sharing its cable with another device i'm pretty sure.......... as for knowing if its 80 or 40 i'm not too sure..... i'm a little (a lot) computer illiterate..... thanks so far though

Can you atleast burn plain cds? I mean does the error come up every time you burn a cd?

1 click dvd copy comes with the program CopyToDVD 3 ,are you using that?

I was looking for that I don't think aopen has any for his drive.Call them up and get a replacment it could be defective.

as for the cable, easy option is to count the wire strands.

DMA and CRC data errors point to not enough data being fed to the drive quick enough, hence the 80 ribbon cable, which I'm sure will fix the burn errors or having the drive if possible on its own IDE connector set as master, but that means opening up the case to check.

    Hi wowzers
You could set the burn speed for 4X or 2X. If you get a successful burn then data throughput is definitely the culprit. Otherwise, exchange that defective burner.:)

i'm really willing to do anything here to get this working so if it doesn't work at a lower burn speed i'll open it up and take a peek inside here......

I have no experience with AOPEN burners but I've had enough Rom drives fail to know they arn't very impressive. If "backing up" DVD's that you own with 1click, you need DVD43free, its the program 1 click uses to get around pesky copyright protection. That wouldn't produce the errors. As for telling if you have a 40 or 80 ide cable, the test is simple, count them. 40's have 40 wires in a ribbon 80's well you get the jist.

  18. wowzars

    wowzars Private E-2

I already have DVD43 and i use that with my 1click....... its a 40 ide cable by the way

Try a burn with only one device connected, also you might want to try a different media, I burned a bunch of coasters before I found out my burner only likes Memorex.

  20. DavidGP

DavidGP MajorGeeks Forum Administrator - Grand Pooh-Bah Staff Member

As you have now concluded its a 40 cable, get hold of an 80 IDE Ribbon cable and try that, they are fairly cheap.

yeah I would also go with thesunscreen's advice in checking on the burners firmware as updates will allow various media types to be used.
